Airtable MCP and Claude skills

Read records from Airtable bases and views, filter them with formulas, and report overdue items, counts by status and what changed this week.

Connect Airtable to your agent (MCP)

  1. Airtable MCP server, Airtable's official remote server at https://mcp.airtable.com/mcp. In Claude Code, install it with claude plugin install airtable@claude-plugins-official, or add the URL as a remote HTTP server. Signing in with OAuth lets you choose which bases and workspaces it can reach (docs).
  2. The same server with a personal access token, which suits Codex, Cursor and unattended runs. Create a token at airtable.com/create/tokens, store it in AIRTABLE_PAT, and send it as Authorization: Bearer in the client's MCP config, for example claude mcp add --transport http airtable https://mcp.airtable.com/mcp --header "Authorization: Bearer $AIRTABLE_PAT".
  3. Web API with the same token. Call https://api.airtable.com/v0/... with the Bearer header; the skill also reads AIRTABLE_BASE_ID (it starts with app).

Give the token only data.records:read and schema.bases:read, and add only the bases in the report under Access; without the write scopes, neither the MCP server nor the API can change a record.

What agents do with Airtable

The Airtable Web API reads a table with GET https://api.airtable.com/v0/{baseId}/{tableIdOrName}. filterByFormula takes an Airtable formula such as AND({Status} != 'Done', IS_BEFORE({Due date}, TODAY())), view returns only the records a saved view shows and in its order, fields[] trims the response, and results come 100 records per page with an offset to continue. Every record carries its createdTime, and a Last modified time field in the table gives a report something to compare runs against. The metadata endpoint (GET /v0/meta/bases/{baseId}/tables) lists tables, fields and field types, so a skill can confirm field names before it filters. The API allows five requests per second per base.

Teams that run projects, content calendars, inventories or a lightweight CRM in Airtable schedule overdue records by owner, counts by status with the change since last week, records stuck in one status for too long, and new rows added to an intake table.
