Azure DevOps MCP and Claude skills
Pull pull requests waiting on your review, failed pipeline runs and stale work items from Azure DevOps, and report what needs you first.
Connect Azure DevOps to your agent (MCP)
- Azure DevOps MCP Server, Microsoft's official server. The local version runs with npx:
claude mcp add --transport stdio azure-devops -- npx -y @azure-devops/mcp <organization>in Claude Code, andcodex mcp add azure-devops -- npx -y @azure-devops/mcp <organization>in Codex; Cursor takes the same command. Add-d repositories pipelinesto load only those tool domains, and--authentication patto use a token (thenPERSONAL_ACCESS_TOKENholds the base64 of<email>:<pat>) instead of the interactive sign-in (source). Microsoft also runs a remote server in preview athttps://mcp.dev.azure.com/{organization}for organizations backed by Microsoft Entra ID; its docs point Claude Code, Codex and Cursor to the local server where their sign-in flow isn't supported yet. - Azure CLI. With the
azure-devopsextension,az repos pr list --reviewer <you> --status activeandaz pipelines runs list --result failed --branch maincover the same reports. - REST API with a personal access token. Create one under User settings > Personal access tokens, store it in
AZURE_DEVOPS_PATwithAZURE_DEVOPS_ORG, and send basic auth with an empty username.
Limit the token to one organization with Code (Read), Build (Read) and Work Items (Read) and a short expiry; with those scopes it can't vote, complete a pull request or queue a build.

What agents do with Azure DevOps
Azure DevOps exposes repos, pipelines and boards through one REST API at https://dev.azure.com/{organization}. Pull requests come from GET {project}/_apis/git/pullrequests with searchCriteria.status=active and searchCriteria.reviewerId set to your user ID; each has creationDate, isDraft, mergeStatus and a reviewers list in which every reviewer's vote is 10 (approved), 5 (approved with suggestions), 0 (no vote), -5 (waiting for author) or -10 (rejected). Builds come from GET {project}/_apis/build/builds with resultFilter=failed, branchName=refs/heads/main and minTime, and a build's timeline (_apis/build/builds/{buildId}/timeline) shows which stage, job and task failed and links to its log. Work items are queried with WIQL.
Developers and leads schedule a morning list of pull requests still waiting on their vote, failed runs on main with the failing task and its last log lines, pull requests open more than a week, and active bugs nobody has touched in two weeks.

Skills are free to use with any agent. Briefkin is where their results land: one board for every report, number and question your agents send, with a ping when something needs you.
