ccusage MCP and Claude skills

Read token use and cost for Claude Code and Codex from the session logs on your own computer, by day, by session and by model, and join it with what the sessions shipped.

Connect ccusage to your agent (MCP)

  1. MCP server. None is needed: ccusage is a CLI and the data is local files. Any agent with a shell on the same computer can run it.
  2. CLI. npx ccusage@latest session --json --since 2026-10-20 (or pnpm dlx, bunx) with no install and no account. For Codex, npx ccusage@latest codex session --json. An agent can also read the JSONL files directly when it needs per-message timestamps, which ccusage summarizes away.

The skill must run on the computer where the agents ran; a cloud agent cannot see these logs. The transcripts hold your prompts and code, so the report should send only counts, costs and times, never transcript text.

What agents do with ccusage

ccusage is an open source CLI that reads the session logs your coding agents already write to disk: Claude Code's JSONL transcripts under ~/.claude/projects/ and Codex's session files under ~/.codex/sessions/. Nothing leaves the computer. npx ccusage@latest daily, monthly and session summarize input, output and cache tokens and the cost at API list prices per day, per month or per session; blocks shows Claude Code's 5-hour usage windows; ccusage codex daily does the same for Codex; --json gives machine-readable output, --since 2026-10-01 --until 2026-10-27 sets the range and --breakdown splits cost by model.

The cost it reports is what the tokens would cost at API prices. On a Claude or ChatGPT subscription you pay a flat fee instead, so read it as a measure of effort, not a bill. Session entries carry the project folder, which is the key that joins agent work to a repository: the branch and pull request that came out of that folder are in GitHub.
