Confluence MCP and Claude skills

Find Confluence pages created or edited this week, stale pages nobody has touched in months and open comments with CQL, and post a short digest per space.

Connect Confluence to your agent (MCP)

  1. Atlassian Rovo MCP Server, Atlassian's official remote server for Confluence and Jira at https://mcp.atlassian.com/v2/mcp. Add the Atlassian connector from Claude's directory, or in Claude Code run claude mcp add --transport http atlassian https://mcp.atlassian.com/v2/mcp and authenticate with /mcp; Codex and Cursor take the same URL. It searches Confluence with CQL, reads pages and comments, and can create and edit pages, always within your own Confluence permissions (getting started).
  2. REST API with an API token. Create a token at id.atlassian.com under Security > API tokens. The skill reads CONFLUENCE_EMAIL, CONFLUENCE_API_TOKEN and CONFLUENCE_BASE_URL (https://acme.atlassian.net) and uses basic auth. A scoped token with read scopes such as search:confluence and read:confluence-content.summary is narrower; scoped tokens call https://api.atlassian.com/ex/confluence/{cloudId} instead of your site URL.

A classic token can do everything your account can, so prefer a scoped read-only token, or run reports as an account with View permission on just the spaces involved.

What agents do with Confluence

Agents search Confluence Cloud with CQL through GET /wiki/rest/api/search?cql=.... The queries that carry most reports: type = page AND space = ENG AND lastmodified >= now("-7d") for this week's changes, type = page AND lastmodified < now("-180d") for stale pages, creator = currentUser(), label = runbook and contributor = "<account id>". The v2 API reads the rest: /wiki/api/v2/pages and /wiki/api/v2/spaces for page bodies, owners and versions (each with author and timestamp), and the footer and inline comment endpoints for discussions and whether they are resolved. Page view counts come from the Analytics API, which needs Confluence Premium or Enterprise.

Teams schedule a weekly digest of pages created and updated per space with who changed what, a stale-page audit for runbooks and onboarding docs, open comments on the team's specs, and pages under a parent that lack an owner label.
