Figma MCP and Claude skills

Read comments, version history and file activity from Figma, and report open threads waiting on you and which design files changed this week.

Connect Figma to your agent (MCP)

  1. Figma MCP server, Figma's official remote server at https://mcp.figma.com/mcp. In Claude Code, install it with claude plugin install figma@claude-plugins-official, or run claude mcp add --transport http figma https://mcp.figma.com/mcp and authenticate from /mcp. In Codex, run codex mcp add figma --url https://mcp.figma.com/mcp; in Cursor, run /add-plugin figma or add the URL as a custom server (setup). View and Collab seats get up to 20 tool calls a month; Dev and Full seats on paid plans get daily limits, such as 200 a day on Professional. The reports on this page read comments and version history through the REST API instead.
  2. REST API with a personal access token. Generate a token in Figma's settings under Security, store it in FIGMA_ACCESS_TOKEN, and send it as the X-Figma-Token header. The skill also reads FIGMA_FILE_KEYS, the keys from each file's URL.

Give the token only file_comments:read, file_versions:read and file_content:read instead of the deprecated, broad files:read, and set an expiry; it can then read comments and history but can't post, resolve or edit anything.

What agents do with Figma

The Figma REST API (https://api.figma.com) has what design leads track week to week. GET /v1/files/:key/comments returns every comment on a file with its author, message, created_at, resolved_at, parent_id for replies and client_meta pointing at the spot on the canvas. GET /v1/files/:key/versions returns the version history with the user, label, description and time of each save, and GET /v1/files/:key?depth=1 gives the file's lastModified and its pages without the whole tree. The folder endpoints (Figma's new name for projects) list a team's files with their last-modified times, so a skill can find what changed before it opens anything. The Figma MCP server is built for design-to-code work: it hands agents structured design context for a frame or file link.

Designers and design leads schedule comments that mention them or sit unresolved for more than two days, files and pages changed this week with their named versions, and new files added to a team folder.
