Metabase MCP and Claude skills
Run saved Metabase questions and dashboards on a schedule, and post the numbers that changed with a link back to the chart your team already trusts.
Connect Metabase to your agent (MCP)
- Metabase MCP server, built into Metabase. An admin turns it on under Admin > AI > MCP, and the URL is
https://your-metabase.example.com/api/metabase-mcp. In Claude Code runclaude mcp add --scope user --transport http metabase https://your-metabase.example.com/api/metabase-mcp, then/mcpand Authenticate. In Claude, add the URL as a connector (Metabase is in the directory); Codex and Cursor take the same URL. It signs in with Metabase's own OAuth and runs with your Metabase permissions (docs). - API with an API key. Under Admin > Settings > Authentication > API Keys, create a key and assign it to a group; it gets exactly that group's permissions. Store it in
METABASE_API_KEYwithMETABASE_URLand send it as theX-API-Keyheader.
The MCP scopes decide what a client can do: agent:content:read and agent:query:run cover reports, while agent:content:write, agent:delivery:write and agent:sql:run let it edit content, create alerts or write SQL. For the API, put the key in a group that can view only the report's collections.

What agents do with Metabase
Metabase organizes analysis into questions (cards in the API), dashboards and collections. POST /api/card/{id}/query/json runs a saved question and returns its rows, GET /api/dashboard/{id} lists a dashboard's cards and filters, GET /api/collection/{id}/items browses a collection, and POST /api/dataset runs an ad hoc query. Because a saved question already holds the SQL or query-builder logic your team agreed on, an agent that runs it reports the same number people see on the dashboard.
Teams schedule a weekly KPI digest built from a handful of saved questions, an alert when a metric moves more than a set percentage, a list of questions that started failing after a schema change, and a summary of the board dashboard before the Monday meeting.

Your Metabase numbers, on one board with everything else
Skills are free to use with any agent. Briefkin is where their results land: one board for every report, number and question your agents send, with a ping when something needs you.
