Microsoft Teams MCP and Claude skills
Read Teams channel threads, chats and meeting recaps, and post a digest of decisions, unanswered questions and the mentions that need you.
Connect Microsoft Teams to your agent (MCP)
- Microsoft 365 connector in Claude. Anthropic's connector reads Teams chats and channel discussions and Teams meeting information, summaries and attendance, along with Outlook, SharePoint and OneDrive. It's available on every Claude plan but needs a work or school account, and a Microsoft Entra Global Administrator grants tenant consent once. Reading is on by default; sending Teams messages is a write action an admin has to allow (docs). Connectors added in claude.ai also appear in Claude Code when you sign in with that account.
- Work IQ MCP server. Microsoft's own MCP server for Microsoft 365 data, chats included, is in preview (as of October 2026) and needs a tenant admin to set it up.
- Microsoft Graph with your own app. Register an app in Microsoft Entra ID with delegated
Chat.ReadandChannelMessage.Read.All, plusOnlineMeetingTranscript.Read.Allfor transcripts (some of these need admin consent), and sign in once with the device code flow. The skill readsMS_TENANT_ID,MS_CLIENT_IDandMS_REFRESH_TOKEN. Reading channel messages with application permissions is a protected API that Microsoft must approve first.
Delegated read permissions see only the teams and chats the signed-in user is part of, so a digest can't reach beyond your own conversations, and none of them can post.

What agents do with Microsoft Teams
Agents read Teams through Microsoft Graph. GET /teams/{team-id}/channels/{channel-id}/messages lists channel posts and /messages/{message-id}/replies their threads, with a /delta variant that returns only what changed; GET /chats/{chat-id}/messages covers one-on-one and group chats. Messages carry createdDateTime, from, body, mentions, reactions and importance. For meetings, GET /me/onlineMeetings/{meeting-id}/transcripts and /attendanceReports return transcripts and who attended.
People schedule a morning digest of busy channels, questions in a help or support channel with no reply after a few hours, messages that mention them, and a recap of decisions and action items from yesterday's meetings.
