WordPress MCP and Claude skills
Read posts, drafts, comments and pending updates from a WordPress site, and report what was published, what is stuck in review and what needs updating.
Connect WordPress to your agent (MCP)
- WordPress.com MCP, for sites hosted on WordPress.com and self-hosted sites connected through Jetpack with a Jetpack AI or Jetpack Complete plan. The URL is
https://public-api.wordpress.com/wpcom/v2/mcp/v1. Turn on MCP access under Preferences > AI and MCP in your WordPress.com account, then sign in with OAuth 2.1 and choose Read only on the authorization page. WordPress.com is in Claude's connector directory, and the URL works in any MCP client, such as Claude Code withclaude mcp add --transport http wordpress-com https://public-api.wordpress.com/wpcom/v2/mcp/v1. It's included on paid plans; free sites get it for their first 30 days (docs). - MCP Adapter for self-hosted WordPress. The WordPress project's MCP Adapter plugin (experimental as of October 2026, WordPress 6.9 or later) turns abilities registered through the Abilities API into MCP tools at
/wp-json/mcp/mcp-adapter-default-server. Connect with@automattic/mcp-wordpress-remoteand an Application Password (WP_API_URL,WP_API_USERNAME,WP_API_PASSWORD), or locally through WP-CLI withwp mcp-adapter serve --server=mcp-adapter-default-server --user=<user>. Only abilities a plugin marks as public are exposed. - REST API with an Application Password. Create one under Users > Profile > Application Passwords and store
WP_URL,WP_USERNAMEandWP_APP_PASSWORD; requests use basic auth over HTTPS. Published posts need no authentication at all.
Run reports as a dedicated user with the lowest role that sees what they need: Editor for other people's drafts and comment moderation, Administrator only if the report lists plugins and updates.

What agents do with WordPress
Every WordPress site has a REST API under /wp-json/wp/v2/. GET /posts?after=2026-10-10T00:00:00&per_page=100&_fields=id,title,link,date,modified,status lists recent posts (the total comes back in the X-WP-Total header); with authentication, status=draft, pending, future returns drafts, posts waiting for review and scheduled posts; and GET /comments?status=hold returns comments awaiting moderation. Pages, media, users and categories have their own routes, and GET /plugins lists installed plugins for administrators. Where you have shell access, WP-CLI answers the maintenance questions: wp plugin list --update=available --format=json, wp core check-update and wp post list --post_status=pending --format=json.
Site owners and content teams schedule a weekly list of what was published, drafts stuck in review, posts scheduled for the coming week, comments waiting for moderation, and plugin, theme and core updates waiting to be applied.
