Instagram MCP and Claude skills

Pull reach, views, interactions, follower changes and top posts from an Instagram professional account, and post a weekly report on what worked.

Connect Instagram to your agent (MCP)

  1. MCP server. Instagram has no official MCP server for account insights as of October 2026. Community servers exist and use the same access token; check whether one can publish or delete posts before you connect it.
  2. Instagram API with Instagram Login. Create a Meta app with the Instagram product, add your professional account, and request instagram_business_basic and instagram_business_manage_insights. Calls go to https://graph.instagram.com, and the skill reads INSTAGRAM_ACCESS_TOKEN and INSTAGRAM_USER_ID. Long-lived tokens last 60 days and can be refreshed before they expire.
  3. Instagram API with Facebook Login, for accounts linked to a Facebook Page: request instagram_basic, instagram_manage_insights and pages_read_engagement, and call https://graph.facebook.com.

Request only the basic and insights permissions; without instagram_business_content_publish or instagram_business_manage_comments, the token can read numbers but can't post or reply.

What agents do with Instagram

Instagram insights come from the Instagram Graph API, for Business and Creator accounts only. GET /{ig-user-id}/insights returns account metrics such as reach, views, total_interactions, accounts_engaged, likes, comments, shares, saves, profile_links_taps and follows_and_unfollows, with metric_type=total_value for a period total or time_series by day, and follower_demographics with a timeframe. GET /{ig-user-id}/media lists posts, reels and stories, and each media item has its own insights for reach, views, likes, comments, shares and saves. Meta retired impressions in favor of views in April 2025, so older scripts need updating.

Social and marketing teams schedule a weekly report of reach, views and interactions against the week before, the top five posts and reels by views and saves, follower gains and losses, and which content type did best this month.
