Connect Reddit to your agent (MCP)
- MCP server. Reddit doesn't publish an official MCP server. Community servers exist, such as Reddit MCP Buddy, which Claude's directory lists as a community extension; check whether a server uses your account or anonymous access before you connect it.
- OAuth API with your own app. Since November 2025, new Reddit API access needs approval under Reddit's Responsible Builder Policy, so request it through Reddit's developer support form first. Once approved, create a script app at
reddit.com/prefs/apps, storeREDDIT_CLIENT_ID,REDDIT_CLIENT_SECRETandREDDIT_USER_AGENT(for examplebrand-digest/1.0 by u/yourname), and request only thereadscope.
A token with only the read scope can't post, comment, vote or send messages. Keep the schedule modest, daily rather than every few minutes, since Reddit rate-limits each client.

What agents do with Reddit
Agents read Reddit through its OAuth API at https://oauth.reddit.com. GET /r/{subreddit}/new and /r/{subreddit}/top?t=week list posts, GET /search?q=...&sort=new&t=day searches all of Reddit (under a subreddit with restrict_sr=1 it stays inside it), and GET /comments/{article} returns a post with its comment tree. Posts carry title, selftext, subreddit, author, score, upvote_ratio, num_comments, created_utc and permalink. Listings page with after, and every request needs a descriptive User-Agent.
Marketers and founders schedule a daily digest of new posts that mention the brand or a competitor, questions in their niche subreddits where a useful answer fits, a weekly list of the top threads in the communities they follow, and, for moderators, what is waiting in the mod queue.
