Google Search Console MCP and Claude skills

Pull clicks, impressions, CTR and position by query and page from Search Console, check index status, and report what moved since last week.

Connect Google Search Console to your agent (MCP)

  1. MCP server. Google doesn't publish one for Search Console. Community MCP servers exist; check which scopes one asks for before you sign in.
  2. API with a service account. Enable the Google Search Console API in a Google Cloud project, create a service account, and add its email under Settings > Users and permissions on the property. Point GOOGLE_APPLICATION_CREDENTIALS at the key and set GSC_SITE_URL to sc-domain:example.com or https://www.example.com/.
  3. OAuth as yourself. When you can't add users to the property, a desktop OAuth client with the webmasters.readonly scope and a stored refresh token works for scheduled runs.

Ask for webmasters.readonly and add the service account as a Restricted user; the reports only read.

What agents do with Google Search Console

The Search Console API gives agents three things. searchanalytics.query returns clicks, impressions, CTR and average position, broken down by query, page, country, device, searchAppearance or date, up to 25,000 rows per request and 16 months back. The URL Inspection API (urlInspection.index.inspect) says whether a URL is indexed, which canonical Google chose and when it was last crawled, with a quota of about 2,000 inspections per property per day. The Sitemaps API lists submitted sitemaps with their errors and warnings.

SEO teams schedule weekly keyword reports, striking-distance lists (queries in positions 8 to 20 with real impressions), content decay checks on pages losing clicks, and index checks on new or important URLs. Performance data lags about two days, so a weekly report covers the seven full days that ended two days ago.
