Stripe MCP and Claude skills

Pull MRR, new and churned subscriptions, failed payments, refunds and payouts from Stripe, and report revenue and the invoices that need chasing.

Connect Stripe to your agent (MCP)

  1. Stripe MCP server, Stripe's official remote server at https://mcp.stripe.com. Add Stripe from Claude's connector directory, or run claude mcp add --transport http stripe https://mcp.stripe.com/, and sign in with OAuth; clients without OAuth can send a restricted key as a Bearer token.
  2. The Stripe CLI. Run stripe login once, then stripe subscriptions list --status active --limit 100 or stripe invoices list --status open. The CLI defaults to test mode, so add --live for real data.
  3. API with a restricted key. Create a restricted key (rk_live_...) in the Dashboard under Developers > API keys, store it in STRIPE_API_KEY, and give it Read on the resources the report touches: Subscriptions, Invoices, Charges, Customers, PaymentIntents, Balance and Disputes.

Never hand an agent the secret key (sk_live_...); a restricted key with Read where needed and None everywhere else can't refund, cancel or charge anything.

What agents do with Stripe

Agents read Stripe through its core objects: Subscriptions (status such as active, trialing, past_due or canceled, with items, prices and discounts), Invoices (status, amount_due, amount_paid, due_date, attempt_count, next_payment_attempt), Charges, PaymentIntents, Customers, Refunds, Disputes, and Balance Transactions for net amounts after fees. MRR is the sum of active subscription items normalized to a month, after discounts; Stripe doesn't return it as one number. List endpoints filter on created ranges and page with starting_after, and the Search API (/v1/subscriptions/search, /v1/charges/search) takes queries like status:"past_due".

Founders and finance leads schedule daily revenue and refunds, weekly MRR with new, expansion and churned amounts, failed payments and past-due invoices to chase, new disputes with their response deadlines, and payouts landing this week.
